I couldn't help but post some amazing photos of Bailey Kay's namesake: Grandma Kay (or Johnson or Kathy). My Aunt Patti helped me find the perfect photo of Grandma Kay for Bailey's room and in the process we got sidetracked by a plethora of other great grandma photos!
Before Justin and I had even settled on the name Bailey, we knew we wanted Kay to be somewhere in the mix. Grandma was the most lovely, lively person I think I was privileged to know. She really embraced the beauty of life and handled the less beautiful aspects of life with grace and healthy doses of humor.
I uploaded a few great ones for you all. First is her high school photo. Next is my favorite, a photo of her painting. Grandma was an artist. She also didn't mind raising a couple eye brows - notice she is in her front yard in a bathing suit. I doubt that was the norm in the 1940s (would you say the photo was taken in the 40s Patti? It looks pre-grandpa and kids). And last, I thought I would add a baby photo for kicks. We can see if Bailey resembles Grandma Kay in her infancy (She is the one of the left, Uncle Kenny, her twin is on the right).
What a great idea! I missed out on all of this electronic fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the photo of Mom, Grandma Kay, was taken in the forties. It looks like it was in the front yard of the courthouse (I think that is what she called the row of tiny houses strung down a walk way in the middle). She lived with Evelyn and John, her sister and brother-in-law (maybe even our cousin Richie was born by then). If I am correct the courthouse was in Hollywood and Mom worked at Sears. She met Dad, Grandpa Vic, while living in Hollywood. He sang gospel music in a quartet on the radio (KFWB) and she was in the audience the night they met. She also lived with Evelyn and John after she and Dad were married and while he was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Either way, in was during the forties.
Thanks, Emily and Justin, for including Mom in this special event! By the way, yesterday (Friday 3/25) I was so sure Bailey had arrived. I was on my way to the pool at the resort in AZ and as I rounded the corner to descend the stairs a gorgeous butterfly fluttered by. I tried not to hurry or scare it away and was surprised as the butterfly glided down the stairs with me and then on down the path to the pool. Anyway, the butterfly just brought happy thoughts of you, Justin and Bailey! Love you all!

I agree that this is a great idea. I hope that Amy Adams plays you in the movie version of this blog. Won't be long now!!! Can't wait to get the text that you are holding Bailey Kay in your arms.
ReplyDeleteHow fitting to honor your Grandma Kay. She truly was a wonderful Grandma to you kids. Not only was she a prayer warrior on your behalf, but she took such particular interest in your lives. She delighted in every stage of your growing years...always open armed to help you....your avid fan in all of your endeavors.....a gracious listener....and very generous with the time she spent with you. It's a lovely way to keep her memory...."Bailey Kay"
